Obituary: Carole Priestly Johnson, 58

More than anything, Ms. Johnson loved and cherished her sons, Andrew M. and Matthew P. Johnson


Carole Preistly Johnson, 58, of Proctor Avenue, died peacefully Oct. 2 at Scallop Shell Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in South Kingstown, Rhode Island. Born in Manchester, New Hampshire, a daughter of the late Joseph A. and Beverly M. Priestley, she grew up in Barrington.

She graduated Northfield Mt. Hermon School in 1971 and subsequently graduated summa cum laude from Simmons College where she was inducted into the prestigious Academy. Following graduation Ms. Johnson worked for the Westwood Transcript, a daily newspaper, as a municipal beat reporter. Subsequently she worked as a technology writer for Purchasing Magazine and then moved to Digital Equipment Corporation where she worked as a corporate writer, a position she continued as an independent contractor for many years.

More than anything Ms. Johnson loved and cherished her sons, Andrew M. and Matthew P. Johnson, both of whom will miss her dearly. She will be greatly missed by her sister and brother-in-law, Pamela P. O'Connor and James F. O'Connor, Jr., of Wakefield; her brother Joseph A. Priestley, Jr., and his companion Gail L. Hynes; and her sister-in-law Kinda R. Priestley of East Greenwich and her nieces and nephews for whom she was a treasured aunt. She was predeceased by her brother William H. Priestley whom she dearly loved.

Her funeral was held Saturday, Oct. 6, at the East Greenwich United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Joseph A. Priestley, Sr., Scholarship Fund at the University of Massachusetts Lowell.
