Obituary: Debra R. Sjoberg, 57

Debi loved boating with her family, snuggling with her dog, Bailey, tending to her gardens and sunbathing.

Debra R. Sjoberg, 57, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, July 18, at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence. She was the beloved wife of Mark A. Sjoberg. Mark and Debi celebrated their 36th wedding anniversary on June 11.

Born in Amityville, N.Y., a daughter of the late Everett F. "Fred" and G. Katherine "Kay" (Koch) Lust, she was raised in New London, N.H., and spent summers with her family on Lake Sunapee in Newbury, N.H.. She loved to ski, both on the slopes in the winter and on the water in the summer. She was a 1973 graduate of Kearsarge Regional High School in N.H. Upon getting married, she lived in Cranston before moving to East Greenwich.

Debi was a cancer survivor, and despite suffering a disabling stroke in 1995, she lived a courageous and fulfilled life. On April 4, 1993, she was baptized at Norwood Baptist Church in Warwick. Since becoming a member, Debi has served the Church by using her gifts to teach Sunday school, as the Director of the Young Christian Singers and the God's Kids Choir, and as superintendent of the Sunday school. She loved boating with her family, snuggling with her dog, Bailey, tending to her gardens and sunbathing. 

Besides her husband, she is survived by her two daughters: Kristin Leigh Parker and her husband Jay of East Greenwich and Justine Lyn MacKechnie and her husband Michael of East Greenwich. She was a loving "Grammie" to her three grandsons Owen, Harrison and Joel. Her family remembers her as a strong, loving, generous and faithful woman.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home & Crematory, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick on Monday, July 22, from 4 to 8 p.m. Her funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 23, at 10 a.m. at Norwood Baptist Church, 48 Budlong Avenue, Warwick. Burial will follow in Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery, North Kingstown. Kindly omit flowers. Donations in her memory may be made to Norwood Baptist Church or to the Pulmonary Hypertension Association (www.phassociation.org).
