Obituary: Florence V. Metcalfe, 75, Beloved Mother, Worked for Narragansett Electric, Eldredge Elementary

Florence V. Metcalfe, 75, unexpectedly passed away at home July 5, 2014.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 51 years, George E. Metcalfe.

Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late John F. “Jack” Ryan, former East Greenwich Police Chief and the late Florence (Valentine) Ryan.

Mrs. Metcalfe had worked for the former Narragansett Electric Company and in the Lunch Program at Eldredge Elementary School in East Greenwich. She was a graduate of St. Xavier Academy, adored her family and loved taking pictures of them as well as her friends.

Besides her husband she is survived by her sons, Stephen E. Metcalfe and his wife Laura and David P. Metcalfe, EGPD (Ret.) and his wife Sandi, 4 granddaughters, 5 great grandchildren and brothers, John F. and Edward J. Ryan. She was the sister of the late Vincent W. Ryan.

Funeral Service Thursday, July 10th at 11:00am at the Hill Funeral Home, 822 Main St., East Greenwich. Burial will be in RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Calling hours: Wednesday, July 9th 5-8pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
