Certainly a prominent figure in the formative years in many of our lives, Kathleen Rose Byrnes, art teacher in the East Greenwich School System for over 35 years, died peacefully September 22 at South County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a long illness. She was born June 7, 1924.
Kathleen received degrees from Rhode Island School of Design and Columbia University and retired in 1985 from the East Greenwich school system as Supervisor of Art and Music.
Kathleen was a co-founder of the East Greenwich Art Club and of the West Bay Gallery, and belonged to several clubs including the Providence Art Club, the R.I. Watercolor Society and the South County Center for the Arts. Kathleen was recognized and awarded for her paintings throughout the region, and much appreciated by her students, and an inspiration to all who knew her.
Kathleen is survived by her long-time friend, Lane Stanley, as well as 12 nieces and nephews and 19 grandnieces and grandnephews. Visiting hours were held Thursday evening, September 26, at the Avery-Storti Funeral Home in Wakefield.
