L. Yvonne (Golan) Shushtari, 86, of East Greenwich, a retired dietician, died Tuesday morning, March 18, 2014. She was the wife of the late Dr. Hossein A. Shushtari, M.D. They were married for over 45 years.
She grew up on a dairy farm in Binghamton, NY, before graduating from Marywood University in Scranton, PA. She did graduate work in nutrition and public health at Cornell University and Syracuse University. She was a Registered Dietician and a member of the American Dietetic Association for over 50 years. She taught at Roger Williams University and retired as the Nutrition Director for Kent Regency in Warwick. She was a longtime and active parishioner of Our Lady of Mercy Parish, where she taught in the religious education and RCIA programs for many years.
She leaves four children, Jeff Shushtari and his wife Donna of Warwick, Kevin Shushtari and his wife Julie of Greenwich, CT, Shireen Wass and her husband William of Wakefield and Sarasota, FL and Roshan Shushtari of Houston; two sisters Mary Wilson and Gene Werner of Binghamton, NY and seven grandchildren Steven, Jason, Katie, Sam, Hannah, Joshua and Janelle.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, March 22nd at 10:00am at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 65 Third St., East Greenwich. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, West Greenwich. Calling hours: Friday, March 21st 5-7pm at the Hill Funeral Home, 822 Main St., East Greenwich. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to the Alzheimer's Association.
