Obituary: Robert R. Barbour, Sr., 82

He was a self-employed shell fisherman.


Robert R. Barbour, Sr., 82, a longtime resident of East Greenwich, passed away peacefully at home on Jan. 23. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Janice C. (Nichols) Barbour. Born in Warwick, he was a son of the late James and Mae (Cody) Barbour.

Mr. Barbour was a self-employed shell fisherman. He was a Korean War Army veteran and a member of the Thunderbirds 179th Infantry Division. He was a member of King Solomon F & AM and a passed member of the Kentish Guards.

Besides his wife, he leaves his children, Robert R. Barbour, Jr., and his wife, Marilyn, Rebecca J. Barbour, and Susan J. Barbour; his grandchildren, Daniel R. and Sarah R.; and a brother Arland R. Barbour. He was predeceased by siblings Helen, James, Oliver, William, John, Richard and Mae.

Committal Prayers with military honors will be Monday, Jan. 28, at 11 a.m. at the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery in Exeter. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the East Greenwich Animal Protection League, 5732 Post Road, East Greenwich, R.I. 02818.
