Obituary: Susan J. Godin-Day, 51

Susan J. Godin-Day, 51, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012. She was the mother of Sydney Day of Warwick. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Joseph E. and Frances G. (Zegarzewski) Godin.

Susan Day was an award-winning artist whose works had received recognition on the national level from prestigious institutions such as Brown University. Her work encompasses many mediums in both two and three dimensions. Studies were pursued at the University of Massachusetts, where she graduated suma cum laude and received the esteemed Book Award for her work in the fine arts as well as the Golden Key. She held advanced degrees in 2D/3D Studio Arts, Sculpture, and Art Education. She focused much of her work around the concept of personal and community responsibility. She contributed works to altruistic causes such as her hunger project, which consisted of a large series of paintings that toured as a traveling exhibit to raise awareness of world hunger. Most recently, she had opened "Psuedio" Studio & Gallery where her mission was to build an artist collaborative where students would have the ability to learn, experience and prosper from the entrepreneurial aspect of being an artist.

Susan embraced life; hiking and climbing the Appalachian trail, skiing, sailing, boating, motorcycle riding, traveling, and trying all new experiences that crossed her path. Her work through her life was always focused around making life better for the people around her; whether she was taking kids from her neighborhood and teaching them to sail or take them knee-boarding, making new inventions, or just dropping everything she was doing to help whoever may have asked. 

She was an enthusiastic entrepreneur and founded and ran several businesses, including Psuedio Studio in North Kingstown, ToDays' Art Studio in East Greenwich, and The Personnel Department, and over the years had worked at Up Country Inc. and Eastern Wire Products. Susan always worked to bring people together, fostering creativity and invention in business, in fun, and in social interactions. 

Besides her daughter Sydney, she is survived by two siblings, Gail Bell of Warwick and Joseph Godin Jr. of Coventry, her companion Frank Iacono of Warwick, and her former husband and father of Susan's daughter, Henry Day of Warwick.

A funeral service took place at East Greenwich United Methodist Church on Monday, Nov. 19. Donations in her memory may be made to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank, 200 Niantic Avenue, Cranston.
