Town Manager

Hello all.

I hope all of you had a great summer and are enjoying this recent spat of great weather.  It sure would be nice to have a looooooong Indian summer!

Ok so I hope all of you are aware that Bill Sequino has resigned his position with the town to pursue another job and the Town Council has been interviewing candidates.  All but one of these candidates come from other towns, cities, and even other states.  Some with a bit of direct experience, some with none at all, but to be honest, and I may be old fashioned in this regard, I'm not really keen on the hiring of anyone who doesn't truly know what East Greenwich is, and what the values are that we hold dear here.  East Greenwich is simply not a business, it's the best town in Rhode Island, our home, and the place we educate our children.

My belief is, the time it would take us to educate a new Town Manager from scratch would be a worthwhile endeavor if we didn't already have a capable, dedicated, and highly experienced candidate who intimately knows our town, it's principles and workings.  I would venture to say it would be in the best interest of the town and certainly a deserving promotion for the individual I consider the absolute best candidate.

As such, I would like you to join me and support Colonel Thomas E. Coyle III, our Chief of Police, for the position of Town Manager.  His credentials are impeccable, and whether or not you are aware, he has been our Interim Town Manager since the departure of Bill Sequino at the beginning of June of this year.  And this while still maintaining his responsibilities as our Chief of Police.  He has done an admirable job fulfilling the responsibilities of both these demanding positions, and that alone should indicate the loyalty and commitment Tom Coyle has for this town.  There is no more qualified person for this position than Tom.

In a nut shell, Tom Coyle has;

            - worked tirelessly for us and for our town for 25 years.

            - worked proficiently with every town department and as Chief of Police is highly respected.

            - worked for years with every citizen and business group and truly knows the wants and needs of our town.

            - continues to successfully manage our police department.

            - works closely with our Town Council and knows it's operation.

            - been a successful interim Town Manager for us.

I can go on and on singing praise for Tom, particularly in light of the fact he not only possesses the experience and knowledge of our town to make an immediate impact for us from day one, but also possesses the fiscal and business development eye we need to continue making East Greenwich the best it can possibly be.  It is because of all this I urge you to contact our town council members and let them know you support Colonel Thomas E. Coyle III for the position of Town Manager.

Time is of the essence.  Our Town Council is in the decision making process and is slated to make a vote at this upcoming Monday night's Town Council meeting.  Below are the addresses for all our town council members.  Please call them at 886-8600 and simply tell them your hopes are they choose Tom Coyle.

Thank you for your time today. And please friends, forward this to everyone you know in East Greenwich.  It DOES matter.

J. Hoff
