Happy Mother's Day

My Mother sometimes laments the fact that she didn't have advanced education and a career.  She, like many in her generation, married young, had babies right away (three before the age of 23; one more at age 30).  She didn't learn to drive until she was 30.  She was simply home, in her fifties-style ranch house, with her kids.

Her 'careerwas being loving and nurturing.  Not only with us, but with all the women in the neighborhood who called her for advice.  She was a therapist without a degree on the wall.

She epitomized unconditional loving.  Being there. Comforting.

Three of her children wound up in traditional helping professions.  The fourth is an artist.  We are each other's best friends.

One of the early naive surprises of my career was discovering how many people did not have a Mom like mine.  To this day it boggles my mind how anyone survives without that.

Happy Mother's Day Mom.
