19-year-old Charged with DUI After Crashing into Yard

Police find an open beer and an 18-pack of Blue Ribbon in the car of a 19-year-old Warwick man who crashed into the yard of a Division Street residence.

East Greenwich Police charged a 19-year-old Warwick man with driving under the influence and underage possession of alcohol on May 10 after he allegedly drove through a stop sign and crashed into the front yard of the house at 240 Division Street, coming to rest on top of a flower bed, his car stuck against a tree.

Police said Sean W. Healey, 19, of 180 Womponaug Road, Warwick, allegedly tried to back up out of the yard after the crash, which was observed by an officer on patrol at around 1:30 a.m.

Police said Healey did not suffer injuries from the crash and told police he had three or four beers while drinking with friends at a house in Warwick.

Inside his car, police saw an 18-pack of Blue Ribbon beer as well as n open can of beer that "spilled all over his dashboard at the time of the accident," according to a police report.

Healey failed a field sobriety test at the scene and refused a chemical test.

In addition to the DUI and underage possession charges, police cited Healey for failing to maintain proper control of a vehicle, driving through a stop sign and refusing a chemical test.

He is due to appear in District Court on May 16 to answer to the DUI and refusal charges; the traffic summonses and refusal citation have a court date of May 20 at the Rhode Island Traffic Tribunal in Wakefield.

Police seized the beer and his car was towed from the scene.
