A Hot Dog, A Hit & Run, And Stargazing

Thursday, July 12

8:09 a.m. – Police were called to Maplewood Drive on a report of an injured skunk. The skunk was in the middle of the road and could not get up, injured by a car or perhaps rabid. Police shot the skunk.

5:22 p.m. – Police arrested Jeremy Joseph Menard, 32, of Slade Street in Pawtucket, for driving with an expired license and failing to stop after a traffic accident. Another driver called police, saying she was rear-ended by Menard while on Division Street and he just kept going. Police pulled Menard over on Division Street. He told police he had no license with him and that he left the scene of the accident because he believed there was no damage. He admitted not exiting his car to look. When pressed, he said the other driver had gotten out and had yelled at him. He was taken to the station for processing and his car was towed.

Friday, July 13

10:38 a.m. – Police went to the parking lot at the East Greenwich Medical building on South County Trail on a report of a dog in a hot car. They found a dog in a car with the windows rolled down about three inches. The dog was panting heavily and looked uncomfortable. Police reached in, unlocked the car and put the dog in the back of the air conditioned police cruiser. After about 25 minutes, the car’s owner came out. She was uncooperative and hostile. Police returned the dog to the woman and told her they’d be forwarding a report of the incident to the animal control officer.

6:42 p.m. – Police arrested Joseph Darosa Pinheiro, 26, of Union Street, on a District Court bench warrant after his girlfriend asked police to come with her to retrieve some of her belongings from their apartment, fearing an argument with Pinheiro. A routine check of Pinheiro turned up the warrant. Police went to his Union Street address and took him into custody.

Saturday, July 14

2:25 a.m. – On a routine check of Academy Field, police found four people lying down on the grass. They said they hadn’t realized there was a curfew at the field. They received warnings and left the field.

2:55 a.m. – A Main Street woman called police complaining that her boyfriend had kicked her in the knee. The boyfriend, who was sleeping when police arrived, said he thought she’d fallen, that she does that a lot when she’s drunk. Police did observe her to be intoxicated. The woman changed her story a couple of times. Police suggested the man go to a friend’s for the night.

Monday, July 16

12:57 a.m. – An argument between two men traveling together in a tractor trailer truck at the Dunkin Donuts on South County Trail promoted a call to the police. One of the men said he was in training to be a tractor trailer driver and didn’t like the way the other man was driving in the rain. He said he wanted to stop training with the driver and to get a ride to New York City. Police took him to the Dunkin Donuts at Division Road and Quaker Lane where he said he’d be able to find a ride. The driver of the truck went on his way.
