Monday, July 16

8:51 a.m. – The owner of a seal coating company doing a job in the parking lot at Thorpe’s Liquor told police his push blower rolled into a car parked on Main Street. The machine had been started but was unattended at the time it started rolling.

9:57 a.m. – A North Providence man reported his wallet was stolen from his car while it was parked at the East Greenwich Golf Club Sunday afternoon. The car was unlocked.

2:10 p.m. – A Marlborough Street resident told police she got a phone call from an “Officer Jones” from the U.S. Embassy in the Netherlands who said her grandson was in custody in the Netherlands and needed money to get out of jail. She hung up on him and called her grandson, who assured her that he was both in the U.S. and was all right. Police advised her to contact them again if he calls back. She does not have caller id.

7:22 p.m. – Police pulled over a car traveling north on South County Trail because they could see the inspection sticker on the car was expired. Routine checking turned up a suspended registration due to inspection failure so the driver, a North Kingstown man, was issued a summons and the car was towed from the scene.

Tuesday, July 17

9:10 a.m. – Police arrested Javier D. Flores, 27, of Clematis Street in Providence, after he was stopped for speeding on Division Street near Howland Road. A routine check turned up the warrant. He was processed at the station, cited for speeding, submitted bail and was released. His car was towed from the scene.

1:38 p.m. – A Flintstone Court resident told police her ex-husband had violated a No Contact order by sending her an email. The incident is under review.

Wednesday, July 18

7:40 a.m. – The father and aunt of a Maplewood Drive woman met people outside the residence and said the woman was inside “flipping out.” The woman had locked all the doors and refused to let police in to verify her well being so they forced their way in. She was upset but uninjured. She said she’d gotten into an argument with her father over his sale of her dog for less than she thought the dog was worth. The father, who lives at the residence also,  decided to spend the elsewhere.

8:56 a.m. – The owner of Anderson’s Ski & Dive complained that two people had failed to return rental equipment due back in April. Police called both people, who agreed to return the equipment.

4:17 p.m. – While patroling the parking lot of New England Tech on Division Road, police saw lightning strike a telephone pole on Division. The strike caused the ceramic insulator to explode and sever the line. The line fell to the street and burst into flames. Police immediately blocked traffic and called EG Fire District for assistance.

6:27 p.m. – An employee parked in the lot at 1000 Division Street reported one of her car windows was shattered while she was working. Inside the car was a folder containing bank deposit slips, an unknown number of which were missing.
