A Topless Driver & A Lousy Employee

Wednesday, Feb. 8

5:30 p.m. — Police arrested Ashley Rios, 24, of Mauran Avenue in East Providence, for driving with a suspended license after she was stopped because the car she was driving had registration stickers from Feb. 2010. Rios was able to show that her car was registered, but her drivers license turned out to be suspended. A passenger in the car also had a suspended license, so the car had to be towed from the seen. Both licenses were seized to be returned to the Registry of Motor Vehicles.

7:34 p.m. — Police picked up Corey Delekta, 30, of Arthur Avenue in East Providence, from Providence police headquarters on a warrant on charges of embezzling, larceny, and obtaining money under false pretenses while an employee of Bistro 9 on Division Street. The charges stem from an initial report on Jan. 9, in which the owner of Bistro 9 told police about a number of thefts totaling more than $2,500 that had occurred at the restaurant over the three months of Delekta’s employment.

According to the report, Gemma noted problems almost immediately upon hiring Delekta as restaurant manager in September 2011, starting with the disappearance of $700 from petty cash that Delekta told him was used for various restaurant purchases but for which she could supply no receipts. Not long after that, Delekta asked both Gemma and the manager of the golf course for $300 for office supplies. In addition, the report catalogued company credit card misuse totaling $531.67, personal liquor purchases on the restaurant account, and using company money for gas for her car instead of propane for the restaurant. In addition, the report notes that Delekta pocketed money collected from employees to send flowers to another employee in the event of death in the family.

Delekta was processed at the East Greenwich Police Department, arraigned and released.

Friday, Feb. 10

11:31 a.m. — Police arrested Alison Governo, 21, of Cranberry Drive in Hope, on two active bench warrants for failing to appear on previous charges while she was at the Cumberland Farms on South County Trail. North Kingstown police had made the arrest after they had responded to a family disturbance call on Stony Lane and were told that Governo had left the house and walked to the Cumberland Farms. Police took her to Third District Court in Warwick.

Monday, Feb. 13

2:41 a.m. — Police arrested Caroline Weaver, 29, of Juniper Drive for driving while intoxicated after she crashed her car at Middle Road and Tillinghast Drive. When police arrived, they found the car on its side in the middle of some brush. Weaver was inside and had no shirt on. When police asked her what had happened to her shirt, she didn’t answer. When rescue arrived, they were able to extract her from the car after breaking open the sun roof. According to the report, Weaver’s eyes were very bloodshot and her breath smelled of alcohol. She was taken to Kent Hospital, where she was found to be uninjured. Weaver refused to take a chemical blood alcohol test. She told police she did not remember anything that had happened between having some drinks at a bar on Post Road in North Kingstown and the time of the accident. In addition to the DUI charge, police cited Weaver for failing to maintain proper control of her car and refusing to submit to a chemical test.
