Alcohol, Marijuana & Bad Behavior

Tuesday, Nov. 1

7:18 p.m. - Police charged Jonathan Staley, 21, of Providence with marijuana possession after he was stopped because of speeding on Division Street. Staley was pulled over near Heritage Park after he was clocked driving 50 mph in a 25 mph zone. He told police that he couldn’t lower his window because it was broken. When Staley opened his door, police detected the smell of marijuana. The car belonged to Staley’s passenger’s mother. The passenger admitted, when asked by police, that there was some pot in the car’s trunk. Police found two bags containing what was later confirmed to be marijuana - a total of 29.9 grams. Staley admitted it was his. He was processed at the police station, issued a court summons, given a speeding ticket and released.

Thursday, Nov. 3

12:50 a.m. - Police cited a Kingston woman for driving on a suspended license after she was stopped for speeding on Route 4. The car belonged to the woman’s passenger, who had an active driver’s license but told police that he had had too much to drink. The woman was issued a summons and a speeding ticket and the car was towed from the scene.

12:57 a.m. - Police arrested Carole Burgess, 37, of Cranston on charges of disorderly conduct and vandalism of town property after police responded to a fight outside Norman’s on Main Street in which she had been involved. The other party in the fight who, according to a witness, pushed Burgess, had fled. Burgess was yelling and swearing when police arrived and would not stop even after police told her they would arrest her if she did not stop. She was arrested and taken to the station. While in custody, she spit all over the cell where she was held and, it was discovered later, in the police car too. She given a court summons and taken to Kent Hospital for detox.

Saturday, Nov. 5

1:19 a.m. - Police arrested Erika Muro, 32, of Middle Road for driving while intoxicated after the car she was driving was involved in an accident on First Avenue at Cliff Street. Muro failed field sobriety tests. At the police station, Muro’s breathalyzer (BAC) tests came back .170 and .174. Later on Saturday, Muro was arraigned and released.
