Back-To-Back Arrests And A Fake Name

Monday, Sept. 3

9:27 a.m. – Police arrested Robert Mattingly, 41, of South Pierce Road, for driving with a suspended license after he was stopped by police on South Pierce because they were aware his license was suspended due to recent interactions. He was issued a court summons and released. A relative came to retrieve the car.

5:08 p.m. – Police arrested Jordan A. Leveille, 19, of Lion Street, on a bench warrant and for obstructing a police officer after the car he was traveling in was stopped for speeding on Main Street. Leveille had given police a different name. They discovered the truth when they saw a photo  i.d. in the back seat with the name and photo of Leveille. He then admitted he’d lied, saying there was a warrant against him. He was taken into custody and processed at the station.

During the same traffic stop, police arrested Clayton Caswell, 19, of Lion Street, for obstructing a police officer after he gave police a fake name for Jordan Leveille. Police gave him a court summons. He was also cited with having a passenger in the front seat who was not wearing his seatbelt. Police had the car towed from the scene.

5:31 p.m. – A Warwick woman reported missing $200 from the purse she left in the Gold’s Gym locker room during her morning workout. Police said they would follow up with Gold’s to see if their security camera was operating.

7:55 p.m. – Police arrested Toni Capobianco, 25, of Ives Road in Potowomut, for driving with a suspended license after she and her boyfriend were stopped on Main Street because of a call about a couple yelling at each other. Capobianco was driving but a routine check turned up her suspended license. They said they had been arguing, they said. Police gave Capobianco a court summons. She contacted a family member, who arrived to drive the car from the scene.

Tuesday, Sept. 4

8 a.m. – A Middle Road resident told police he’d left some money on the counter at Sunnybrook Farms on Main Street when he visited the store Monday afternoon. Reviewing the security video, police could see a woman customer approach the cashier to pay for her merchandise. Money reportedly left behind by the Middle Road resident was visible on the counter. The customer placed her money on top of the money on the counter, leaving with the extra cash. Police traced the woman’s license plate, clearly visible on the security video. The license was registered to a woman who lived on Post Road in Warwick. Police went to her apartment and advised her of her Miranda rights, asking her about the money. The woman told police she had been planning to return the money, which was still in a paper clip, as the Middle Road man said he’d left it. The money was all there. Police took no action against the woman, but took the money to return to its owner.

9:15 a.m. – Police arrested Robert Mattingly, 41, of South Pierce Road, for possessing of narcotics and driving with a suspended license after he was stopped on South Pierce Road because police knew his license was suspended. Police found a bag containing a white substance which Mattingly confessed was crack cocaine. They also found a clear plastic pipe that looked like a crack pipe. Mattingly told police he’d last smoked crack an hour and a half earlier. There turned out to be 2.3 grams of cocaine in the bag, according to the report. Mattingly was taken to the station, processed and held for arraignment.

1:07 p.m. – Police arrested Lauren Smith, 48, of Veazie Street in Providence, for using a forged prescription for a controlled substance at the CVS at South County Trail after an employee at the store contacted police while Smith and a companion were still in the store. By the time police arrived, the two women had left, but the employee told police what car they left in and police were able to stop them on South County Trail near the Showcase Cinema. The CVS employee told police she’d recognized the prescription was the same one that had been passed a few times in the past week and she’d checked the prescribing doctor’s DEA number. The number turned out to be invalid. Smith was processed and arraigned, then released on $500 personal recognizance bail.

Wednesday, Sept. 5

1:44 p.m. – Police reported to the scene of a car fire on Main Street across from the fire station. The owner, a North Kingstown man, said he thought he may have blown the motor. Police arranged for a tow truck to collect the car.
