Car Breaks & A Too-Loud Band

Friday, August 24

1:04 a.m. – Police arrested Kaitlyn Miller, 20, of Beechwood Drive in Cranston, for driving with a suspended license after police stopped her for driving on King Street on the wrong side of the road. After routine checks, police found the license suspension for failing to pay a violation in April. Miller was issued a court summons and released. A passenger with a valid license drove the car from the scene.

8:30 a.m. – A Frenchtown Road resident reported damage to her mailbox sometime overnight.

3:55 p.m. – A Narragansett woman reported someone broke into her car while it was parked in the parking lot beside Walgreens at 1000 Division Street. She works at Dave’s and left the car there from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., returned to find a window on the passenger side of the car broken and her purse – which had been on the passenger side floor – taken. Inside the purse were several credit cards, a driver’s license, a Social Security card, and $70 cash. While police were taking the report, her bank called to tell her the debit card was already used at locations in Providence.

Saturday, August 25

12:24 a.m. – Police came upon a Warwick woman in the parking lot of 1000 Division who was ill and determined she had been drinking. She called someone to pick her up. A check of her driver’s license showed it to be suspended so police confiscated it.

1:32 a.m. – Police issued a municipal court summons to a West Greenwich man for drinking beer on the street, in violation of the town’s open container ordinance.

10 p.m. – Police checked the decibel level at the Harbourside after, driving by, the music sounded loud. The meter measured 78, above the 65 limit set by town ordinance. Police told staff at the restaurant but the reading continued over the limit. Police spoke with the band’s lead singer, who nodded but did not lower the decibel level to the acceptable limit. Police again told the man to lower the sound during the band’s break but at 11:30 p.m. the decibel level was measured at 71 so police issued the man a municipal court summons.

Sunday, August 26

2:50 a.m. – During routine building checks, police found two doors at East Greenwich High School propped open. No alarm had activated. The building was checked and doors secured.

10:51 a.m. – Police arrested Tanya Riley, 37, of Pat Circle in North Kingstown, for driving with a suspended license after she was stopped for driving 45 mph on Main Street, a 25 mph zone. Police issued a court summons for the suspension and cited her for speeding. A passenger with a valid license drove the car from the scene.

1:18 p.m. – Police arrested Keith Hyson, 19, of Spring Street, and Wallace Gonsalves, 41, of Wheeler Avenue in Cranston, for disorderly conduct after they got in a fight outside a house on Forest Lane. Hyson had come to the house because of what he said the owner of the property had sold him defective car parts. He argued with the owner, then Gonsalves, a friend of the owner, arrived and the argument became physical between Hyson and Gonsalves. Hyson told police Gonsalves sucker punched him. Gonsalves said Hyson jumped him. Both men were taken to Kent Hospital for their injuries.

5:21 p.m. – A Warwick woman told police someone broke into her car and stole her purse while it was parked at the Greenwich Club on Post Road. She said it happened sometime after 5 p.m., because she’d just been to her car to retrieve something from it and she left the purse behind. The purse contained credit cards, her driver’s license, and Social Security card.
