Dinghy Theft, Nakedness And Missing Oriental Rugs

Wednesday, June 20

11:33 a.m. — A Narragansett man reported a rug valued at $25,000 had gone missing while under consignment at a store in East Greenwich. The rug may have been sold, according to the store’s owner, but she said some paperwork was lost in a fire.

2:30 p.m. — A town employee notified police about damage to a curb at Mawney and Friendship streets after a cement truck backed over it. The driver of the truck said he’d already talked to his boss and repairs would be made to the curb.

4:23 p.m. — The owner of a small inflatable dinghy reported it was moved from a dock at Greenwich Cove Marina and found floating near the Greenwich Bay Yacht Club, but without its outboard motor.

5:08 p.m. – Police arrested Peter Crosby, 43, of Main Street, on a District Court bench warrant after police, aware of the warrant, saw Crosby sitting in front of his residence. He was booked at the station, then taken to the ACI.

Thursday, June 21

12:28 a.m. — Police arrested Matthew Card, 19, of Tillinghast Road, for possessing marijuana, first offense, and Joseph Withrow, 19, of Middle Road, for possessing marijuana, first offense, and underage possession of alcohol, after police were called to a house on Chestnut Drive because of a possible fight. There were four young men, including one who was a juvenile, outside the house at Chestnut Street when police arrived. Card was sitting in the backseat of a car that also held a bottle of gin, two cans of beer, a glass pipe, a glass bong, and two jars with what turned out to be marijuana. Withrow said most of the items were his. Card admitted one of the jars of marijuana was his. The two men were taken to the station, processed and released with district court summonses.

10:44 a.m. — A Hillside Court resident said she’d been trying unsuccessfully to reach the owner of a rug shop in town because it had possession of  a small Turkish rug of hers. The rug is valued at $1,000, the woman said.

8:05 p.m. — A resident of an apartment on Main Street told police her neighbor’s door was open and he was naked on his couch, which was ok because it was hot out. But a bit later, she said, he knocked on her door still naked. She shut the door on him. She said she didn’t want to pursue charges, just to have police talk to the man.

8:28 p.m. — Police arrested Edward F. Killoran, 49, of Duke Street, for disorderly conduct after he allegedly knocked over a display of cigarette lighters on the counter at East Greenwich Farms. Police found him outside his residence on Duke Street.

Friday, June 22

12:22 a.m. — A North Kingstown man reported his ex-girlfriend had punched him twice in the face after a fight at Harbourside Restaurant. The ex-girlfriend, from North Providence, contacted police later to say the argument was over personal property. The man declined to press charges.

10:46 a.m. — A Westfield Drive resident reported missing several pieces of jewelry she kept in her bedroom. She suspected someone who had attended a party at the house a few days earlier but said she only wanted police to document it. She planned to talk to the person directly about the jewelry.

11 a.m. — Police arrested Alexander M. Scibak, 21, for violating a No Contact order against a former girlfriend who lives in East Greenwich. He was ordered held without bail because of previous probation violations.

11 a.m. — A Middle Road man said he’d lost his wallet in Newport but neglected to cancel one of his credit cards. The bank contacted him today because someone had charged $4,000 worth of store and internet purchases.

Saturday, June 23

1:11 p.m. — Police arrested David Rosario, 29, of Baldwin Street in Pawtucket, for driving with a suspended license after he was stopped while driving south on Post Road because two of his stop lights were out. A routine check turned up the suspension. Police issued him a summons and the car was towed from the scene.

Sunday, June 24

5:53 p.m. — Police arrested Oriani Felipe Gonzales, 21, of Huxley Avenue in Providence, for driving without a license after he was stopped for running a red light. A routine check showed no record of a driver’s license for Gonzales. He was also cited for running the light.

6:24 a.m. — A King Street resident reported missing a rocking chair and cushion that had been on her front porch the evening before. A check of the area was made but the chair was not found.

6:10 p.m. — A driver involved in a minor motor vehicle accident on Water Street, her passenger and two witnesses reported the driver of the other car – who had since left the scene – was extremely belligerent and appeared to be drunk.

7:50 p.m. — A Tillinghast Road resident reported a stolen mailbox. She said it was unique, with U.S. Postal Service Mail Box” printed on it and a picture of a red tractor on one side and a cornfield on the other. A check along the street for the missing mailbox was not successful.
