East Greenwich Farms Owner Charged with Selling Synthetic Pot

Patel was charged with one count of delivery of a controlled substance and is due to be arraigned in Third Division District Court on on Thursday.

The owner of East Greenwich Farms on Main Street has been charged with selling synthetic cannabinoids, a schedule I controlled substance, after a month-long investigation that culminated in a raid at the convenience store on Wednesday afternoon.

Police said Rakeshkumar R. Patel, 40, of 37 Anne Holst Court, Warwick, sold synthetic pot with street names like "Crazy Monkey" and "Bizarro" to an undercover officer from the Newport Police Department as well as "cooperating individuals" who helped with the investigation over the past several months.

Armed with a search warrant, police entered the store, located at 360 Main Street, and arrested Patel and seized $54,807 in cash during their search of the store.

Patel was charged with one count of delivery of a controlled substance and is due to be arraigned in Third Division District Court on on Thursday.

The investigation was led by East Greenwich Police with help from the state Department of Revenue Division of Taxation and Newport Police.
