EG Firefighter Arrested For Assault

Charges were dismissed Jan. 13.

Warwick Police arrested Mark Amaral, 36, of Johnson Avenue, Warwick, on charges of domestic assault and disorderly conduct Dec. 7, after a family member accused him of slapping her during an argument at home.

Amaral is an East Greenwich firefighter.

According to the police report, yelling could be heard when police arrived at the Johnson Avenue house. Inside, the parties were separated and the family member who notified police said Amaral had pinned her against a kitchen counter and slapped her as well as was verbally abusive.

Police confiscated Amaral's three firearms, as per normal procedure in domestic assault arrests.

Amaral was released by a bail commissioner with a district court summons.

According to East Greenwich Town Manager Tom Coyle, Amaral continues on the job.
