EG Man Arrested For Drug Trafficking

East Greenwich Police detectives, along with detectives from the Newport and Charlestown Police Departments, arrested Edgardo M. Gonzalez, 30, of East Greenwich, for selling cocaine to an undercover officer and other charges, after a joint narcotics investigation.

The arrest took place Monday, Oct. 7, at the intersection of South County Trail and Frenchtown Road. 

According to EG Police Det. Sergeant Jon Chirnside, Gonzalez delivered cocaine to undercover officer two separate times.

On Oct. 7, he met with the undercover officer to exchange cash and cocaine for 500 oxycontin pills. During this meeting, Gonzalez tried to flee from detectives but was caught and arrested after a short pursuit on foot and brief struggle.

Detectives searched Gonzalez's home on Marlborough Street and seized cocaine, steroids and a large sum of cash. 

Gonzalez was charged with one count of delivery of cocaine, possession of steroids, possession of cocaine and resisting arrest. In total, detectives seized $16,000, a 2006 Acura TL and approximately 20 grams of cocaine.  

Gonzalez will be arraigned in Kent County District Court on Tuesday, Oct. 8.
