EGFD Puts Out Car Fire On Route 4

A driver of a nearby car alerted the driver after seeing flames coming out from under the car.

The East Greenwich Fire Department extinguished a car fire on Route 4 near Route 403 Monday morning. The car, which was completely engulfed in flames by the time police arrived, was a total loss, according to Acting Fire Chief Russell McGillvray.

NK Fire also sent an engine.

McGillvray said the call came in just after 9 a.m. The driver had been unaware his car was on fire until someone in a nearby car alerted him after seeing flames coming from underneath the car. Smoke from the fire was trailing the car.

The driver and his dog, the only passenger, were unharmed. McGillvray said the fire appeared to have been caused by a malfunction.
