EG's Chris O'Conners Awarded For 17 Drug Arrests In 2012

The violations ranged from simple possession of marijuana to possession of heroin, hashish, illegally possessed prescription narcotics, and possession with intent to deliver 50 pounds of marijuana.

Rhode Island State Police Trooper Christopher O'Connors of East Greenwich was recognized by state Attorney General Peter Kilmartin last week at the ninth annual Justice Awards.

The awards are given to people and community organizations who show extraordinary commitment to justice and the community.

A four-year veteran of the State Police, O’Connors was honored with the Attorney General Jim O’Neil Justice Award for his significant contributions to narcotics enforcement in the past year.

During 2012, Trooper O’Connors arrested 17 individuals for narcotics violations as the result of motor vehicle stops. These violations ranged from simple possession of marijuana to possession of heroin, hashish, illegally possessed prescription narcotics, and possession with intent to deliver 50 pounds of marijuana. O’Connors also seized a loaded handgun and several thousands of dollars.

"O’Connors’ narcotics enforcement efforts do not end with the arrest of the subjects. During and after the arrests, he is often able to gain the confidence and trust of the individuals to gather valuable information that has led to additional arrests and larger seizure of narcotics," read a statement from the AG's office.

In addition to his narcotics enforcement efforts, O’Connors has been responsible for the enforcement of motor vehicle laws, the handling of motor vehicle accidents, responding to calls for service, investigating complaints and arresting individuals for violations of the law.

“Trooper O’Connors represents the very best of the Rhode Island State Police, and I am confident he will continue to play a vital role in protecting our highways and communities,” said Attorney General Kilmartin.
