Faulty Alarms And A Melted Candle
The East Greenwich Fire District responded to the following calls during the period Jan. 30 through Feb. 5.
Jan. 30
EMS calls only.
Jan. 31
8:58 a.m. — A system malfunction (no fire) at 1567 South County Trail. Officials reset the system.
6:05 p.m. — An alarm sounded at 40 Chief Botelho Court, caused by food on the stove.
Feb. 1
12:41 a.m. — A motor vehicle accident on Middle Road at Howland Road.
2:06 p.m. — A “good intent” call for an overheated vehicle on Route 4 southbound.
3:30 p.m. — An unintentional alarm sound on 2608 South County Trail.
Feb. 2
1 p.m. — A carbon monoxide detector activated at 1 Corr Way. There was no CO; the alarm was caused by a power outage.
1:04 p.m. — An alarm system at 50 Moosehorn Road sounded after a power outage.
1:42 p.m. — A commercial box alarm went off at 5700 Post Road while it was being worked on.
Feb. 3
8:46 a.m. — An alarm system sounded at 61 Reynolds St. due to a faulty smoke detector.
5:49 p.m. — A service call was made after an alarm would not reset at 50 Cedar Ave. The alarm company had to be contacted.
7:05 p.m. — Excessive heat and smoke resulted from a candle left on a woodstove that melted down at 1467 Middle Rd. Smoke was removed with ejectors.
7:05 p.m. — A carbon monoxide detector activated at 35 Duke St.; no CO was found.
Feb. 4
EMS calls only.
Feb. 5
2:25 a.m. — A carbon monoxide detector activated at 939 South Rd, due to a faulty detector. There was no CO.
8:57 a.m. — Alarm investigated at 333 Kenyon Ave. after a smoke detector problem. The homeowner was told to contact an electrician.
5:58 p.m. — “Good intent” call at 212 Marlborough St. because of hot coals in an outdoor pit. No action needed.
8:42 p.m. — A commerical alarm sounded at 101 Main St.
9:15 p.m. — A burst pipe at 19 Trappers Lane caused a water leak.
