Former EG School Committee Member Charged Under Social Host Law

Former East Greenwich School Committee member Jayne Donegan is facing charges under the state's social host law for allegedly hosting a drinking party with dozens of teenagers in her home.

Donegan, now living in North Kingstown, was arrested and charged with simple assault, obstruction of justice and procuring alcohol for minors.

Police reports show police responded to Donegan's Wilbert Way home at around 9:30 p.m. Saturday after neighbors complained of teens urinating in public and drinking.

NBC10 reported that officers saw dozens of cars parked in the area and teenagers running every which way towards the woods when they arrived.

At the scene, Donegan was reportedly belligerant and tried to slam the door shut as officers knocked and screamed "You can't be in my house. I'm an attorney and I know my rights."

Some of the teens were so drunk, police felt they needed immediate medical attention. Police believe there were nearly 100 teenagers at the party.

Donegan was a member of the East Greenwich School Committee in the early 2000s.
