Girl Hides During Frenchtown Road Break

According to police, she barricaded herself in an upstairs room and called police.

A suspect broke into a house on Frenchtown Road west of Tillinghast Road late afternoon Monday and a young girl was in the house at the time, police said Monday night.

The girl, who police said was under age 15, hid in an upstairs room and called 911.

"She did an excellent job of keeping in touch with us," said Det. Lieutenant Jeremy Fague Monday night. She continued to update police throughout the encounter. By the time police arrived, however, the suspect was gone. The girl was not hurt.

"We arrived on scene and the suspect wasn’t there and we started our investigation," Fague said. "The house was broken into." He refused to elaborate as to what, if anything, had been taken from the house or give the exact address.

Police are treating it as a breaking and entering as opposed to a home invasion.

"It’s a breaking and entering during the daytime," said Fague. "It just happened to be an occupied at the time."
