Lovers' Quarrel And A Dog In A Car

Information about the following incidents was supplied by the East Greenwich Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Monday, June 18

10:34 a.m. – Police arrested Steven Moricas, 50, of Mockingbird Drive in Cranston, on a District Court bench warrant and for driving with a suspended licence after he was pulled over for driving erratically on Route 4. Routine checks turned up the suspended license and the warrant. He was taken to the station for processing and his car was towed from the scene.

2:26 p.m. – A Main Street resident reported fraudulent use of her American Express card. She received a call from Amex while returning from a trip out of state. The charges, for $15, $16, and $21 (the last one was denied), were placed at the UPS Store in the Benny’s plaza.

7:11 p.m. – Police arrested Michaela Parkinson, 24, of Lucas Road in Warwick, for failing to stop after an accident, obstructing an officer and resisting arrest. According to the report, Parkinson was driving a car that got in an accident on Post Road near Forge Road and she left the scene driving east on Forge Road. Her license plate number was given to police and they went to the registrant’s address. While there, they saw the suspect car – which had significant front end damage – driving on the street. When the car stopped, police spoke to the driver, who was Parkinson. She said she left the scene because there’d been no damage. She told conflicting stories then tried to walk away. One of the officers took hold of her wrist and she began to pull away. Police placed her under arrest at that point. She continued to struggle, according to the report. Police finally had to pin her on the ground and place her in handcuffs. Parkinson continued to resist and was yelling. She refused to get in the police car until threatened with pepper spray. She finally complied and got into the car. Warwick police arrived at that point and proceeded to see if Parkinson was driving while intoxicated. She was taken into custody by Warwick police and reported to the EG police station on Tuesday for processing on the three charges listed above.

Tuesday, June 19

3: 47 p.m. – A couple driving through town got in an argument and police were called after a bystander saw both of the parties get out of the car while in traffic. When police arrived, the woman, from Bristol, from the car was there and told police she’d become upset when she read a text message exchange between her boyfriend – the driver – and another woman. She got out of the car, then he got out and grabbed her arm. She slapped him, then he left. The bystander corroborated the story. The man, reached by phone, denied there was a physical component to the fight.

5:24 p.m. – Police arrested Dennis Christy, 47, of Main Street, on a charge of driving with a suspended license after he was stopped by police while driving south on Main Street. Police suspected Christy’s license was suspended due to previous contacts and a check confirmed this so they approached him after he’d parked his car.

6:49 p.m. – Police arrested Edward Sherman, 51, of Castle Street, at his residence on two District Court bench warrants.

9:07 p.m. – Neighbors complained of excessive noise at a house on Lion Street. Police heard shouting and yelling in the back of the residence and had to knock several times before someone finally came to the door. The man said he had four friends over and they hadn’t realized how loud they were being.

Wednesday, June 20

6:45 a.m. – A resident of River Farm reported his trash cans had been knocked over and his mail box torn from its post and was missing. Police checked the street for other such incidences but saw none.

7:23 a.m. – A Middle Road resident told police someone overnight had entered three different trucks on his property, and one had been driven. The man said one of the trucks had been “ransacked” and the faceplates of two truck radios were missing. Other damage was also noted.

9:12 a.m. – An employee of a Post Road garage reported a car dropped off for inspection had a cracked frame. By law, mechanics are supposed to notify police of such a finding, in case the owner wants to take the car anyway. The owner of the car said he’d bought it a month earlier from a private dealer in Massachusetts.

9:39 a.m. – Police arrested Jessica Burdon, 20, of Joyce Glen Street in Warwick, for driving with a suspended license after she was involved in a car accident at Main and Dedford streets. A routine check turned up the suspension; her car was also unregistered. Her plates were seized and she was issued a court summons and a citation.

9:57 a.m. – Police were notified that a dog was in a locked car in a lot off Main Street. The day was predicted to be very hot and police recognized the car and the dog as belonging to a resident of Main Street who has routinely kept his dog in the car since January. The man let the police take the dog, which was taken to North Kingstown Animal Hospital. A member of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty of Animals was notified. He ended up taking the animal and told police the man had agreed to give up ownership of the dog.

5:08 p.m. – Police arrested Peter Crosby, 43, of Main Street, on a District Court bench warrant after police, aware of the warrant, saw Crosby sitting in front of his residence. He was booked at the station, then taken to the ACI.
