Police Log: An Open Door, A Broken Camera

Information about the following incidents was supplied by the East Greenwich Police Department.


Tuesday, May 29

2:05 a.m. — During a routine security check, police found a south side double door at East Greenwich High School ajar. When they entered the building, the alarm did not sound. This was the third night in a row police found an open door at the high school.

10:47 a.m. — Police assisted in an eviction on Spring Street. Both residents left in a cab with a few possessions and their pets. They declined the town’s offer to put them up in a hotel for two days.

7:49 p.m. — The owner of a hair salon on Main Street reported someone was slandering her on Craigslist. She had already talked to the legal department of Craigslist and the listings had been removed. Police told her the matter was a civil one and recommended she talk to a lawyer.

Thursday, June 1

1:42 a.m. — A King Street resident told police a man walking by his house broke his video camera after they got in an argument over noise the man and his companion were making. After the resident told the man he was videotaping him, the man lunged toward him, knocking the camera to the ground. The two men then ran off. Police recommended the resident call them about noise complaints in future.

5:50 p.m. — Police assisted EGFD at a car fire on Laurel Hill Road. The car’s owner said he noticed a burning smell then saw smoke coming from the hood while driving home. A neighbor put out the fire with a garden hose.

Friday, June 2

12:03 a.m. — Two women talking in a car parked at East Greenwich Farms on Main Street reported a man had been sitting nearby, left, then returned 20 minutes later, sat down again, then got up and started walking toward the car. The women locked the car doors and got ready to leave when they saw the man had pulled out his penis and was masturbating in the direction of the driver’s window. The driver, startled, drove forward, over the parking barrier. The man started walking down Main Street. After backing off the barrier, the women left the scene and called police.

12:21 p.m. — Police responded to King Street near Crop Street after a report of a fight in progress. A man there said he had been assaulted but decided he didn’t want to fill out a report and wanted to forget the whole matter. He did not appear to have visible injuries and refused medical treatment.
