Police Log: Facebook Fomented Fight, Unleashed Dogs

Information about the following incidents was supplied by the East Greenwich Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Monday, July 8

5:59 p.m. – Police arrested Michael Anthony Zalobowski, 49, of Exchange Street, and Mary Joanne Rhone, 51, of Duke Street, on charges of disorderly conduct after an altercation on Duke Street. According to the report, Rhone confronted Zalobowski as he was walking across the street because of some statements he’d made about her on Facebook. An argument ensued and, according to friends of Rhone’s, Zalobowski assaulted her. The two friends tried to help Rhone and one of them got hit in the process. Police took both Zalobowski and Rhone into custody. They were released with District Court summonses after they were seen by the bail commissioner.

Tuesday, July 9

8 a.m. – An EG man and a Warwick woman were cited for having their dogs off leash at Scalloptown Park.

From 10:14 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. – Police assisted in a woman’s retrieval of the belongings of her and her daughter from the house of the father’s family on Pardon’s Wood Lane. The woman was not able to retrieve all of her things during the initial visit. Phone calls to the occupants of the house and to their lawyer finally resulted in a second visit where the woman was able to get the rest of her things.

12:08 p.m. – An employee of First Evangelical Lutheran Church at Division and Brayton streets told police a parishioner had been trimming hedges at the church using a 17-foot ladder. He leaned the ladder on his car, parked on Division Street, during a lunch break, but the ladder was gone on his return.

Thursday, July 11

1:50 a.m. – Police told two men at Fat Belly’s on Main Street they couldn’t stay because the bar-restaurant had not called to ask for an after-hours extension. The men said they were doing some painting overnight. The manager followed up later in the day, apologizing and asking for the correct course of action in the future.

5:57 p.m. – Police arrested Albert Ballou, 26, of Marlborough Street, on a District Court bench warrant after police found him at his home. Ballou was booked at the station then taken to the ACI.

8:48 p.m. – A South Road resident told police the roofing contractor he’d hired had threatened him after he complained about the job and threatened to withhold the final $1,000 payment.

10:05 p.m. – Police arrested Edward S. Palumbo, 49, of Linden Avenue in Cranston, for driving while intoxicated and refusing a chemical breath test after he was involved in a car accident in front of Nautika on Water Street. Police found Palumbo in the street and his truck stopped there with damage to the right front tire. Palumbo’s eyes were bloodshot and he was slurring his words, according to the report. He told police he’d gotten in the accident while leaving the Nautika parking lot because he’d been trying to light a cigarette. The cigarette dropped and he got burned, causing him to veer to the right. After failing a field sobriety test, Palumbo was arrested and booked at the station, where he refused to take the alcohol test.
