Police Log: Kicking, Slapping, Spitting & Lots Of Illegally Parked Cars

Information about the following incidents was supplied by the East Greenwich Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Thursday, June 20

2:16 a.m. – Police arrested Dwayne V. Fague, 47, of Main Street, for domestic assault and disorderly conduct, following his alleged assault of a woman. The woman said Fague kicked her, threw water at her, slapped her, and hit her with a phone book. The EGFD took her to the hospital. Police found Fague at a neighbor’s place. He said the woman had scratched him and he said she was lying about the assault. Police took him into custody.

4:40 p.m. – Police arrested Kevin Scott Maggio, 47, of Overbrook Lane, on a warrant after police saw him in his driveway. He was taken into custody, processed at the station and taken to the ACI.

9:01 p.m. – Police arrested William Joseph Gaynor, Jr., 30, Oak HIll Drive in Cranston, on four warrants after police saw him driving on Duke Street. Police were aware Gaynor had several warrants for his arrest.

7:31 p.m. – A passing motorist told police about a possible intoxicated man in the parking lot at the Beacon Diner. Police found the man trying to put the key in the ignition but seemed very drunk, so they had him taken to the hospital and his car towed from the scene.

9:08 p.m. – Police had cars towed from King Street at Water Street and on Queen Street for being parked illegally.

Friday, June 21

2:30 a.m. – Police arrested Tina M. Briggs, 39, of Sachem Drive in North Kingstown, for driving with a suspended license after she was stopped driving south on Post Road because she was known to police for having a suspended license and suspended registration. She was taken into custody and her car was towed from the scene.

3:39 a.m. – Police stopped a woman on the sidewalk on Water Street because she was stumbling and appeared to be drunk. Routine checks turned up a warrant out of Warwick. Warwick police came to pick her up.

11:07 a.m. – Police arrested Edward M. Hammond, 25, of Pardon’s Wood Lane, on domestic assault and disorderly conduct charges after a woman accused him of assaulting her over domestic issues. He was taken into custody. UPDATE: The charge of disorderly conduct was dismissed; Hammond pleaded no contest to domestic assault and got one-year suspended sentence and probation. 

Between 7 and 9:58 p.m. – Police had 11 cars towed from the area of Queen, King, Water and Exchange streets for being parked illegally.

Saturday, June 22

9:09 p.m. – Police assisted Warwick police in an incident of alleged domestic assault at a residence in Warwick on Post Road south of Forge Road. When police searched the home of the alleged assailant, they found around 40 marijuana plants in two rooms, most of which were 5 feet tall. Warwick police were called. The man accused of assault was not found.

10:09 p.m. – Police arrested Michael Mirto, 48, of All American Way in North Kingstown, for driving while intoxicated, refusing a chemical breath test and failing to stop after being involved in an accident after an alleged hit and run on South County Trail. Police found the car as it was turning onto Frenchtown Road. The driver, Mirto, had bloodshot eyes and smelled of alcohol, according to the police report. Mirto was taken into custody after failing field sobriety tests. At the station, he refused the breath test. He was issued citations and a district court summons and released.

11:08 p.m. – Police had a car towed from King Street for being parked illegally.

Sunday, June 23

5:56 p.m. – Police arrested a Providence man for driving with a suspended license after he was pulled over because of a loud muffler. He was issued a court summons and released with the promise he would report to the station before his court date for fingerprinting. A friend drove the car from the scene. UPDATE: The case was dismissed; the Dept. of Motor Vehicles made an error.

9:17 p.m. – Police had a car towed from Queen Street for being parked illegally.

9:40 p.m. – Police arrested Roberto Lopez, 32, of Grand Street in Woonsocket, for driving without a license after he was stopped driving on Division Street with high beams on and a loud muffler. They arrested his companion, Candy M. Mattei Costas, 32, same address, for disorderly conduct after she yelled obscenties at police to the point of spitting on them and kicked open a car door, hitting two police officers in the process. Both Lopez and Costas were taken to the station, processed and released.

Monday, June 24

4:24 a.m. – Responding to a tip, police found the police boat missing from its berth at the town boat launch and a portable toilet knocked over. The police boat was found, as per the tip, near the shanties on Water Street. The Harbormaster said the police boat was undamaged. Police had checked the boat launch at 1:30 a.m. and found nothing awry.
