Police Log: Missing Planters, Flying Dishes

Information about the following incidents was supplied by the East Greenwich Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.


Friday, April 26

12:46 p.m. – A Carrs Pond Road resident showed police a wooded area of his property where trash had been dumped, including two piles of brush, a white rattan bench, pieces of lumber and plastic flower pots. Police suggested he hang a chain between trees to block vehicles and post no-trespassing signs.

1:31 p.m. – The chef at Sienna restaurant told police someone took four cast-iron planters that had been moved behind the building to be cleaned on Thursday. He said he’d left at 11 a.m. Thursday to run some errands and when he returned at 2 p.m., the planters were gone.

5:49 a.m. – Police arrested Thomas W. Houston, 44, of Calverley Street in Providence, on three failure-to-appear warrants after seeing him outside at the Main Street Dunkin Donuts. The officer was familiar with Houston and knew of the warrants. He was taken into custody without incident, processed at the police station and transported to the ACI in Cranston.

5:54 p.m. – Police responded to a call about furniture being removed from an unoccupied house on Adirondack Drive that had been the location of an alleged marijuana-growing operation and is still monitored by police. The two men at the house told police they had gotten a house key from one of the owners and that she had asked them to remove some furniture. Police allowed them to continue what they were doing but told them in future the owner would have to notify EGPD first about such activities.

8:51 p.m. – Police arrested Brett Wolstencroft, 24, of Old Post Road in Westerly, for driving with a suspended license after he was pulled over on Main Street for driving in an erratic manner. Police also arrested Christopher M. Delano, 27, a passenger in Wolstencroft’s car, on two warrants after they was turned up during routine checks. Delana was taken into custody, processed at EGPD and transferred to the ACI in Cranston. Police gave Wolstencroft a court summons and a friend drove the car from the scene.

Saturday, April 27

4:18 a.m. – Police arrested Jeffrey F. Halllinan, 48, of Main Street, and Dianne Smith, 56, of Duke Street, for disorderly conduct and simple assault, after police were alerted to an argument at Hallinan’s residence by a 911 call. Police had seen the couple arguing earlier and had seen them to their respective homes. Both appeared drunk at the time, according to the report. Now, Smith appeared disheveled and her cloths were torn; Hallinan was bleeding from a cut above his left eye. They admitted to arguing and throwing dishes at each other. Smith was taken to Kent Hospital by EGFD; Hallinan’s wound was bandaged and he was taken to the station for processing.

4:59 p.m. – Police arrested Robert Bonneau, 52, of Boston Street in Cranston, for driving with a suspended license after he was seen by police driving out of a driveway on Middle Road that was chained off with no-trespassing signs all around. Bonneau said the property is owned by his brother, but routine checks turned up the license suspension. He was issued a court summons and released; an acquaintance drove the car from the scene.

6:08 a.m. – Police arrested Patricia A. Kozma, 41, of Washington Street in Attleboro, Mass., on a failure-to-appear warrant after the car she was a passenger in was pulled over because a brake light was out. Kozma was taken into custody, processed at the station and released on bail.

Sunday, April 28

12:42 a.m. – Police arrested Garrick Wann, 26, of Bayberry Lane, for vandalism and larceny under $1,500 after he broke into his family’s house and a family member called police. Wann said he broke in because there was no other way for him to gain entry and that he had been living there recently. His mother accused him of taking one of her checks, forging her signature and cashing it for $500. He was taken into custody, processed and held for arraignment.

8:44 p.m. – Police arrested Michael S. Coates, 25, of Post Road in Warwick, for driving a motorcycle with a suspended license after he and another motorcyclist were stopped because one of them was revving loudly and popping a wheelie a Main Street. Routine checks turned up Coates’s license violation. The other driver had a driver’s license but it was not valid for motorcycles, so police had both motorcycles impounded. Coates was issued a court summons and the other man a summons for his license violation. UPDATE: Coates pleaded no contest and was fined $250 plus court costs.
