Police Log: Mop As Weapon, Former Employee As Problem

Information about the following incidents was supplied by the East Greenwich Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.


Friday, May 24

7:59 p.m. – Police arrested David Olguin, 51, of Division Road, for assault and disorderly conduct after he got in a fight with his live-in partner, allegedly hitting him in the back with a mop, breaking the mop and knocking pictures and the phone off the wall in the process. Police took Olguin into custody and provided domestic violence materials to his partner.

11:30 p.m. – The manager of Blu on the Water told police a former employee refused to leave the restaurant. Two weeks earlier, Blu’s management decided did not hire her back this season and told her she was not welcome there. When she arrived this night and refused to leave, the manager called the police and asked police to issue a no-trespass order against her. The woman refused to sign the no-trespass order; police told her if she entered Blu again, they would arrest her.

Saturday, May 25

5:10 p.m. – A Cindy Ann resident told police someone had knocked off his mailbox between 3:30 and 5 p.m.

7:10 p.m. – Police arrested Bonnie Appleton, 36, of Bennett Street, for driving with a suspended license after she failed to come to a stop at the intersection of King and Duke streets. She told police she did not have an active license. Police issued a court summons and told her to report to the station for processing before her court date. They also gave her citation for failing to stop at a stop sign.

10:50 p.m. – Following a tip about a disturbance on Main Street, police found an EG man lying on the sidewalk. He appeared to be very drunk and possibly injured. EG Rescue was on the scene and they said there had been a fight between the man on the sidewalk and another man, who could be found at an address on Main Street. Police checked it out and found four men there, all of them appearing to be drunk, who told police the man on the sidewalk had been the one who initiated hostilities with a resident of that address.

Monday, May 26

12:35 p.m. – The owner of 31 Queen Street told police she was having trouble with a man who had initially wanted to rent an apartment in the building and gave a $300 deposit but then, 10 days later, changed his mind and asked for the money to be returned. The woman said she would be willing to give the man back half the money and police spoke with the man, who agreed to that plan.

10:21 p.m. – Police arrested Christine Marie Thompson, 38, of Marlborough Street, for two charges of assault and one charge of disorderly conduct, after police were called to her apartment because of a domestic dispute. Thompson allegedly became combative after she’d had too much to drink. UPDATE: The two assault charges were dismissed as part of a plea of no contest to a disorderly conduct charge.
