Police Log: Neighbor Hostilities, Missing Birthday Money

Information about the following incidents was supplied by the East Greenwich Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Monday, Nov. 4

12:39 p.m. – Police arrested a West Warwick woman, 20, on a bench warrant for failing to appear in court after she was involved in a car accident on South County Trail. Routine checks turned up the warrant. After being processed at the station, she was transferred to Washington County Court. Her car was towed from the scene.

3:28 p.m. – Police told a Providence man who was passing out flyers for his construction company in the Stone Ridge neighborhood that he needed a license from the town to solicit.

Tuesday, Nov. 5

9:56 a.m. – A Woodbridge resident told police his neighbor seemed to be escalating hostilities following his testimony against her regarding a dog complaint. Most recently, he told police, she walked onto his property and began shooting video and photographing him. He asked that police issue a no-trespass order against her. Police spoke with the woman, who said she thought the man was calling police on her again, so she was using the camera to document that the dogs were not doing anything wrong. She read the no-trespass order but refused to sign or accept it.

1:16 p.m. – A South County Trail resident told police a birthday card mailed to her house arrived with three gift cards totaling $100 missing. The card’s envelope was open. The sender confirmed the contents. According to the mail carrier who was delivering that day, she believed the envelope was intact when she placed it in the mailbox.  

6:23 p.m. – Police arrested an Exeter man for driving with an expired license after he was pulled over for doing 50 mph on South County Trail, a 35 mph zone. Routine checks turned up the license expiration. He was issued a court summons and told to report to the EGPD before his court date for processing. His passenger drove the car from the scene.

Wednesday, Nov. 6

10:12 a.m. – The owner of a business on South County Trail told police two heavy-duty aluminum loading ramps went missing overnight. There is no video surveillance of the back of the building, where the ramps had been and the area is not gated. The ramps weigh approximately 200 lbs. and 150 lbs. and are valued at $1,200 and $1,000 respectively.

Thursday, Nov. 7

12:40 a.m. – Police arrested a Warwick man, 29, for driving with a suspended license after he was pulled over on First Avenue for speeding. Routine checks turned up the license violation. The man was issued a court summons and told to report to the EGPD for processing before his court date. His passenger drove the car from the scene.

8:24 a.m. – Police went to an eviction on Oak Dell Circle to keep the peace. A constable and a moving company were on the scene when police arrived. The constable had a document from a judge ordering the residents to vacate the property. A woman answered the door. She and her husband were given time to get dressed and pack up a few things. Their daughter arrived by 9:30 to pick them up.

2:01 p.m. – A Church Street resident told police someone had fraudulently place $3,515.66 on his National Grid gas bill and $1,709.37 on his NG electric bill. He learned of the amounts when National Grid told him he needed to pay at least $200 or the company would shut off service to the building. National Grid said the charges were placed on the account from an address in Pawtucket.
