Police Log: Possible Intruder On Laurel Hill

Information about the following incidents was supplied by the East Greenwich Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Monday, Oct. 21

11:54 p.m. – Police went to a residence on Long Street after getting a report of a fight there and found a man in the kitchen of the apartment with a fresh wound on his neck. He told police his wife arrived home at 11:30 and they had argued. She ended up leaving with their children for the night. The man said he got the wound after tripping over kitchen drawers that were on the floor in the kitchen. He told police they were there because he was in the middle of painting the kitchen. He asked that the incident be documented but declined to allow police to photograph his wound.

6:12 p.m. – An 84-year-old resident of Sleepy Hollow Road told police she’d gotten a call from a man who said he was from Microsoft and her computer was sending out error messages. He told her to go on a website and give her credit card information to fix the problem. This was the fourth such phone call she had received, she told police. Police told her to contact her phone provider and she should press *57 after a call, if she should get another one, which will allow her provider to track the number.

Wednesday, Oct. 23

12:19 p.m. – The director of human services for the town told police two window screens had been taken off Swift Community Center windows and ripped. The windows themselves appeared undamaged. In addition, she said some outdoor outlet weather proof plastic covers were missing.

2:12 p.m. – Someone from Blu on the Water reported a racoon that appeared to be sick was on the property. The animal control officer confirmed the racoon was sick and needed to be euthanized, which was carried out by an accompanying police officer.

Thursday, Oct. 24

9 a.m. – A Tillinghast Road resident told police someone stole her wallet from her car sometime overnight while the car was parked in the driveway. She said she may have left the front door unlocked. The glove box was damaged and a second car at the residence was also entered but nothing was taken.

Noon – A Warwick man told police his car had been keyed; he thought it had taken place between 10:30 p.m. Sunday night and 1 a.m. Monday while parked at 137 Main Street.  

Saturday, Oct. 26

3:40 p.m. – Police spoke with a South Road resident who allegedly had been riding a dirt bike and giving hayrides on the Boesch Farm, which is owned by the East Greenwich Municial Land Trust. The resident denied both activities.

5:28 p.m. – Police were called to the concession stand at Eldredge Field on a report of vandalism and found a damaged window screen. A 16-inch pry bar was on the counter nearby.

11:07 p.m. – The manager of Fat Belly’s called police to ask for help with a customer who had been touching customers inappropriately then refused to pay his bar tab after being told to stop. The manager asked that the man be given a no-trespass order. Police escorted the man home.

Sunday, Oct. 27

1:38 a.m. – Police went to 38 Water Street after getting a report of a man lying on the ground there, sleeping. The man, from Woonsocket, said he had been at Blu for a Halloween Party, that he was feeling sick and that he didn’t remember lying down on the ground next to a car. He appeared to be drunk. EG rescue arrived and the man volunteered to be taken to Kent Hospital.

9:02 p.m. – A Laurel Hill resident told police about an attempted burglary. He said he noticed a dark colored car parked in front of his house. When the resident used a remote to lock his car doors, the flash of the car lights seemed to startle the driver fo the other car. It began to drive away, turning onto Maplewood Drive. When the resident proceeded into his kitchen to turn off the light there, he saw a white man, about 6 feet tall and 200 pounds in his mid-30s standing on the patio. The man was wearing a dark hooded jacket and carried a baseball bat, according to the resident. The resident ran upstairs to grab a baseball bat of his own then went looking for the possible intruder but that person was nowhere to be found. Police found no evidence of an intruder.
