School Committeeman Martin Arrested for Driving With Suspended License

Martin was also cited for driving an unregistered car without an up-to-date inspection.

Paul Martin, four-term School Committee member, was arrested Thursday, Aug. 9, for driving with a suspended license after he was pulled over on Division Street near Howland Road because his car bore no inspection sticker.

In a routine check, police found Martin's license to be suspended. In addition, the car showed no active registration since August 2011.

Initially Martin, 69, told police he could not find his registration or insurance and explained he was with the School Department. According to the report, when police told him they'd learned his license had been suspended, Martin said, "I'm going to call your chief!"

Martin's car was towed from the scene. Martin was released and police mailed the summonses to him.

Martin, whose term is up this year, is not running for re-election.

I could not agree more - thank you EG Police Department for not handing out special "passes" to elected officials. No one is above the law. I'm sure he's a nice enough guy and there may be many legitimate reasons his license was suspended and his car registration was not current, but his reaction to include his saying he was with the school department and then "I'm going to call your chief" speaks volumes about the attitude of entitlement that pervades politics...apparently at ALL levels. Bravo EG Police Department!!!

Please don't think Paul Martin is representative of any other EG politicians.

MR MARTIN !! IF YOU DO THE CRIME THEN YOU MUST DO THE TIME. NO EXCUSES FOR SOMEONE WHO IS REPRESENTING THIS TOWN. COME ON NOW, THREE INFRACTIONS! NO LICENSE, NO REGISTRATION, AND NO INSPECTION STICKER. IT'S YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO MAKE SURE THESE ITEMS ARE TAKEN CARE OF.
