'Thrill Killer' Released

Alfred Brissette, who pled no contest to a 1999 murder, left prison Tuesday after having served about one-third of his sentence.

A Woonsocket man sentenced to spend more than three decades behind bars for the "thrill killing" of a Woonsocket woman in 1999 walked out of prison Tuesday a free man, wjar.com reports.

Alfred Brissette has been released after serving just 13 years of a 35-year sentence. Brissette was convicted of killing Jeanette Descoteaux, pleading "no contest" to killing her for the thrill of it. He left the Adult Correctional Institutions Tuesday morning after having been granted parole.

Brissette was scheduled to be released from prison after a June 2012 parole board vote, but public outcry in November caused the board to announce a review of the decision. In March, the board voted unanimously to release him.

According to the RI Attorney General's office, Brissette was granted parole, not released early due to time off he may have earned for good behavior or other program credits.

What do you think? Should a killer be released on parole before serving even half his sentence?
