Two Break Ins Reported Tuesday

One took place on South Road and the other on Bayberry Lane; police think they are unrelated.

East Greenwich Police Capt. Steven Brown said homeowners reported two house breaks Tuesday, one on South Road and one on Bayberry Lane.

The break in on South Road took place some time between Sunday and noon on Tuesday, Brown said. The house is vacant and for sale. The son of the owner stops by the house every few days to check on it. He noticed the break in during his visit to the house midday Tuesday.

According to Brown, the thief appears to have gained access to the house through an open garage door. Among the missing items were a lawn mower and a window-unit air conditioner as well as assorted household items.

In the Bayberry Lane break, the homeowner went out between 9:30 a.m. and noon Tuesday. Upon his return, he noticed a broken screen.

The only things missing were three men’s watches, valued at around $1,000 apiece. All three had been sitting on top of a dresser. Brown theorized the thief got in, grabbed the watches and fled.

Because the two houses involved were not near to each other and because the types of items taken were so different, police detectives do not think the two break ins are connected.

In the Bayberry incident, police have a possible suspect. If you have any information about either incident, police ask you to contact them at (401) 886-8684.
