Five Things: Election Results, Nor'easter

Your guide for life in East Greenwich today, Nov. 7.

Whew! Our long national election season has ended. More than 7,000 East Greenwich residents voted yesterday (including absentee ballots, which haven’t officially been counted but there were more than 500 of them!). We’ve got the returns in town races here. In the state Senate Dist. 35 race here. We will have more election news as the day progresses – check back!

Planning Board meeting: At tonight’s meeting, former chair Brad Bishop (just elected to a full term on the Town Council) will be recognized for his years of service on the board. In addition, the panel will discuss inter-municipal zone change applications and the ongoing Comprehensive Plan update. The meeting takes place in Council Chambers at Town Hall and starts at 7 p.m.

Weather: As you’ve probably heard, a nor’easter is on the way, due to arrive today. It will bring cold rain and wind. According to the National Weather Service, the storm will move up the Route 95 corridor. “The coastal system forecast to develop will definitely be a heavy rain and gusty wind producer while churning up the seas,” it reported. It could bring several inches of snow from Delaware to Maine. Rain will start in Rhode Island late morning, with showers and sleet arriving tonight. Gusts could be as high as 49 mph. Batten down the hatches, again.

EG Food Cupboard needs donations: Items especially needed are jars of jelly, baked beans, canned fruit, tuna, peanut butter, and cereals. The food cupboard is housed at St. Luke’s Church. You can leave food there during normal business hours.
