It's Happened! Town Rec Signup Goes Digital

Paper signups will still be accepted too.

It took a while, but online registration for EG Parks & Recreation programs has arrived. It will be in full swing for the winter-spring program signups, which start Monday, Dec. 16.

"We're very excited," said Parks & Rec Director Cathy Bradley. They got the software a year ago and having customers sign up online is the final step.

There is still a little paper involved initially. Everyone who wants to sign up online must first establish an account and that account must then be approved by Parks & Rec. The account registration form comes the old-fashioned way: paper.

The reason for the extra "paper" step is because the signup software tracks residency by zip code, but residents of Potowomut and Cowesett share the 02818 zip code. There would be no way for the system to ferret out EG residents, which matters, since they get first dibs on program offerings.

So, the department will approve each online user first and no non-residents will be allowed to register online.

With registration starting Dec. 16, it's important to sign up for pre-approval now if you want to use the online system. However, people can still sign up the old way, by paper mailed or dropped off.

You'll find the sign up sheet here. Print it out, fill it out and mail it or drop it off at Parks & Rec, 1127 Frenchtown Rd. You can also pick up a form there and fill it out.

Users will find the online registration through the town's website, here. A tab for "Parks & Recreation" is located in the top left corner of the home page, below the maroon-colored bar. While registration won't open until Dec. 16, by Dec. 6 users will be able to see it.

According to Bradley, about 100 people have already been pre-approved, having read about it in the fall program brochure.

"Get your pre-approved account now, so come the 16th you're ready to go," said Bradley.
