NRA: Put ‘Armed Police Officers’ In Every School

In a press conference held Friday morning, the head of the NRA called for armed police officers to guard our nations schools

During its first press conference since the Sandy Hook School shooting last Friday, the National Rifle Association (NRA) called for schools to be armed with police officers.

"The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun," said NRA executive Wayne LaPierre.

He said school children defenseless "and the predators of the world know it and exploit it."

LaPierre urged Congress  ”to appropriate whatever is necessary to put armed police officers in every school in this nation.

At least one Patch reader does not agree.

"We can't even afford teachers," said Mike Barbas on the Middletown Patch Facebook page.  "Good guys with guns is not the answer."

What do you think about the NRA's call for armed police officers in our schools? Tell us in the comments!

Instead putting an armed police officer in the schools...how about putting a teacher where guns are sold? I'm sure we will have far less targedies.

I don't think we want to have an "armed camp" in every school as a police officer can't be everywhere at once. He/she could be at one end of a building and perhaps someone comes in at the other end. Where does it stop? How much is enough? It'll never happen but what really needs to be done (in my humble opinion) is to take some of the violence out of our lives; e.g. video games, TV , movies, bullying and, yes, even road rage. There is so much of it so that we have become desensitized to violence and it becomes acceptable as part of our daily lives. We tolerate all of these things and do not speak out against them for fear of being called out of touch with reality, etc. A-men !

yes, and start with this guy! A SWAT team greeting for the kids! Not sure if this is the direction we are looking for, the smarter move is toward mental health care and fewer shouting heads, we need an intelligent lead, not the same old mantra of more guns. pssst, it's not working!

Very true, that has been the norm, but the depth and degree of depraved indifference to life has never been more glaringly apparent that mental health issues can no longer be kept in a dark room. Gun control arguments will go on ad nauseum but the problem is like Yogi Berra's take on baseball, 90% physical, the rest is half mental! Helping the parent of a disturbed child is a measure of kindness, a society should be defined by this, how it cares for its weak and ill. Why do we choose to be defined by gun laws? It's Christmas, peace on Earth and good will toward man, never more necessary than today and how about every day!

Good offense is best defense. Retired cops ideal. Or ex military already with a pension. Screened and trained. Get rid of ridiculous bus monitors to help pay. Reduce teacher"s union dues also to help pay. Concealed carry for a least one other.
