Scaling Back

I recently took a huge leap of faith – I stopped weighing myself.

I was a little nervous that morning. I didn’t have a number generated by my scale to set the tone for my day. It’s that number that, if it’s what you want to see, really makes your day. Then there are those days when the number just pisses you off, kind of like Congress.

So what happened the next day? The sun came up, the world went on, and my clothes still fit me. Okay, I thought. I can do this again. I figured I would just weigh myself at the end of the week…except I forgot.

It’s been a few weeks now since I’ve hoisted myself onto the scale. I have to say, my days begin with a little less stress. It’s rather liberating. And there’s more good news. Reducing stress has helped my waistline. My clothes are just a little looser lately.

Stress can cause us to hold on to excess weight. And to make things worse, some people eat when they’re stressed. I used to have this thing for Goldfish crackers. When I was stressed, those little fishes didn’t stand a chance.  I was on a first-name basis with the cashier at the Pepperidge Farm Outlet Store.

The key then is to reduce stress. Start by avoiding your scale. Love yourself up. Breathe. Eat mindfully. Don’t let a number ruin your day.

Take a leap of faith.
