Rocky Hill Alum, Rome Kirby, the Sole American Sailor on the Victorious, America's Cup Oracle Team.

Rome Kirby '07, off side trimmer and the only American on Oracle Team USA, was part of a team that made an improbable comeback in the final, winner-takes-all race of the 34th America's Cup Wednesday. Rome is one of the youngest members of the team, but his father, Jerry, is a veteran of six America's Cup campaigns.  Throughout his own career, Rome has excelled in nearly all classes of boats available to him.   Prior to America's Cup, Rome competed with Puma Ocean Racing in the Volvo Ocean Race - a 9-month, 39,000 mile endurance adventure with 11 sailors on a 70-foot boat. His team placed third in the race, which is considered by some to be sailing at the highest level and extremely dangerous and challenging on both the boats and the crew.
