Avengers Headed To Super Bowl; Beat Quakers 25-13

EG will play Middletown in the D III championship game Sunday afternoon at Carcieri Field.

The East Greenwich Avengers came out strong Wednesday night against the Moses Brown Quakers at Carcieri Field, and stayed in front the entire game, winning 25-13 and a berth in the Super Bowl Sunday. The Avengers haven't been in a Super Bowl since 2006.

They will play Middletown, the only team that's beaten EG this season. Middletown beat Narragansett 34-14 in their semi-final contest.

The Avengers dominated the first half, with a touchdown by Carney Crawford (no extra point) in the first quarter and a TD by Meran Topalian in the second quarter. Off a fumble by Moses Brown with 2 minutes left in the half, Alex Cleary scored a touchdown (no extra point).

The third quarter went scoreless, but early in the fourth quarter Moses Brown got a opening when Nicholas Liguori ran 77 yards for a touchdown, bringing the score to 19-13, and EG fumbled the punt return, returning possession to the Quakers.
