EGHS's Verdun Named NEARI Support Professional Of Year

Sue Verdon is, in many ways, the face of East Greenwich High School. If you're a student and you come in late, you deal with Mrs. Verdon. You're a parent coming to pick up your student or meet with a teacher, you deal with Mrs. Verdon. You attend a basketball (football, soccer ...) game, you deal with Mrs. Verdon.

At the beginning of the school year, students hug her like an old friend. Because she is.

Verdon began her EGSD career at Eldredge Elementary, but has been a fixture at East Greenwich High School since 1999.

Her level of commitment and involvement is what led the Rhode Island chapter of the National Education Association (i.e. the teacher's union) to name Verdun the Support Professional of the Year at their annual awards ceremony Nov. 20.

Supt. Victor Mercurio praised her at the School Committee last week.

"Everywhere I went, it seems, that's where she was," Mercurio said of his early days in the district, "helping students, helping teachers, helping administrators, helping me. Absolutely a fabulous resource for the high school, for the entire district."

Congratulations, Mrs. Verdon!
