Hanaford, Eldredge, Win Bronze Awards in HealthierUS School Challenge

George R. Hanaford and James H. Eldridge Elementary Schools have joined an exclusive group of schools in the country that have earned certification from the HealitherUS School Challenge.

George R. Hanaford and James H. Eldredge Elementary Schools have joined an exclusive group of schools in the country that have earned certification from the HealitherUS School Challenge.

Both schools earned bronze awards in the school challenge, a voluntary program that promotes healthier school environments. It's part of First Lady Michelle Obama's Let's Move! campaign to promote healthier, more active lifestyles.

Both schools took part in an awards ceremony on May 22. The district a photo gallery on its Web site with a note of well-deserved congratulations to the staff at both schools.

Only 7 percent of eligible schools have earned certification, which requires the schools meet certain targets for daily participation in breakfast, recent changes to the National School Lunch Program as well as launch activities and events to get students moving.
