EG Residents, Restaurant Owners, win Best Burger Award

A burger topped with sausage, egg and cheese earned a spot in the hearts of editors at a national business news Web site.

Jay and Michelle Hoff live in East Greenwich and run The Abbey at 686 Admiral Street in Providence.

They also just won Best Burger by BusinessInsider.com.

In an e-mail, Michelle Hoff said she and her husband are very proud of the accomplishment, which comes after nearly 13 years serving up desirable burgers out of the restaurant. They celebrate their 13th anniversary this June.

The Hoffs also own Buster Krabs in Narragansett and The American in Providence.

The Abbey earned the nod thanks in part for its "Hair-of-the-Dog-That-Bit-You" burger. This 10 ounce burger comes with sauteed onions and a sausage patty, fried egg and bacon lands on top. A classic slab of cheddar cheese completes the meal.

So the next time you're in Providence and want a burger, there's no question The Abbey should be on your list.
