Cross Country State Championships: Boys Place 3rd, Girls 7th
Fellow EG resident Colin Tierney, a senior at Bishop Hendriken, placed first overall in the Boys race.
Sunday was a big day for East Greenwich Cross Country, both for East Greenwich High School and for EG resident Colin Tierney, as they competed in the state championships at Ponagansett.
Tierney, a senior at Bishop Hendriken, placed first overall in the Boys race, with a time of 15.49.1, helping to give Hendriken a first-place team finish.
The East Greenwich Boys team took third place (La Salle came in second) – the top public school. Garrett Scanlon was the top finisher for EG, placing fifth with a time of 16:05.

In the Girls competition, EG placed seventh overall, sophomore Margaret McCaffery was EG’s the top finisher, sixth overall, with a time of 19:03.20.
The boys team will go on to compete in the New England Championships later this month. The Girls team fell just short of qualifying as a team.

For the Boys, Scanlon and Tommy Sommer (who placed seventh) were named to the First Team All-State; Noah Barreto (who place tenth) was named to the Second Team All-State.
For the Girls, McCaffery was named to the First Team All-State and Thedita Pedersen (who finished 19th overall) was named to the Third Team All-State. Caroline Blessing, Emily Ferguson, Phoebe Osterhout and Pedersen all achieved personal records Sunday.
