Fun And Fundraisers Rule The Weekend

It’s Thursday, you’ve got no idea what you’ll do this weekend. For your convenience, Patch is coming to the rescue with the best bets for how to spend your free time. Check out our picks for the local activities to hit and places to explore.

No horses are necessary to enjoy a day of horse-filled activities at Goddard Park on Saturday.

Starting with check-in at 9 a.m., and continuing with a Versatility Challenge at 9:30, and ride-out (NEHT mileage 6/12 miles ride, 6/12 miles drive) at 10 a.m., there’s lots of fun to be had.

In addition, there’s a lunch after the ride, a show after lunch, raffles and a silent auction.

Why Go: All proceeds go to benefit the rescue’s efforts to save abused, neglected and/or unwanted horses.

Where/When: 360 Cowesett Road, Warwick, RI; Thursday, 6 to 10 p.m., Friday, 6 to 11 p.m., Saturday, 12 to 11 p.m., and Sunday, 12 to 10 p.m.

Why Go: Held every other year, the family-friendly fundraising event features live music, food specials, games, a flea market and carnival rides.

Where/When: 2727 South Country Trail, East Greenwich; Saturday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Why Go: For every 10 cents provided by sponsors, members of the gym will lift one pound of weight, with the goal of generating $5,000 for the Rhode Island Community Food Bank. At least 50,000 pounds will be weight lifted at the event!

Where/When: 660 Northrup Road, North Kingstown, RI; Saturday, 8:30 a.m. Registration; 10 a.m. Race

Why Go: The 9/11-inspired event hosted by the RI Blue Star Moms, North Kingstown Fire Fighters Association IAFF Local 1651, and the North Kingstown Fire Department benefits several military charities, the Rhode Island Firefighters Widows and Orphans Fund, and the Tunnel To Towers Foundation.

Pricing: Participants $30; Volunteers $15

Why Go: The Avengers play the Lincoln Lions this week.
