Third Year Running, Murphy, 13, Qualifies For Hershey Finals

Laura Murphy is going to Hershey, Pa., in August for the third year in a row. It's not the chocolate, as nice as that is. Rather, Murphy keeps winning on the local and regional levels at the Hershey Track & Field competitions.

She raced in the Rhode Island meet on July 2, but only heard the other day she'd done well enough to return to Hershey. J

According to Margie Murphy, Laura's mom, the 13-year-old won the 100 and 200 meter dashes at the Rhode Island meet on July 2 and ended up with the fastest time in the 100 meter dash  (she ran it in 12.98 seconds) for the 13-14 girls in New England and eastern Canada (Newfoundland, Labrador, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island).

"She recently turned 13 and so is at the younger end of the age bracket, so this was especially nice for her," said her mom. The meet in Hershey takes place in early August.
