Yankee Steam-Up Heats Things Up on Saturday

Steam engines, preschool fundraiser, chamber music & more

It’s Thursday, you’ve got no idea what you’ll do this weekend. For your convenience, Patch is coming to the rescue with the best bets for how to spend your free time. Check out our picks for the local activities to hit and places to explore.

1.

Start your engines and head on over to the annual event that’s all about steam engines, old gas engines, antique cars and motorcycles, launches, tractors and other farm machinery. Come and look, or bring something of your own to rev up.

Dedicated to model engine makers, engineers, historians, students and people who care about ingenious mechanisms and their remarkable Yankee builders, the show offers two model tables, one with pressure-regulated compressed air and the other with steam in full operation.

In addition, giant 12-foot, 14-foot, and 15-foot flywheel historic engines will run, plus dozens of gas engines.

There’s no charge for registered exhibitors, but you’ll need to contact the museum to let them know what you’re bringing at 401-885-0545 or newsm@newsm.org.

The event happens rain or shine, and there’s plenty of free parking and refreshments on site.
