Cove Canoe Races To Benefit Special Olympics Take Place Sunday

Grab three friends and head down to the Harbourside at 11 a.m. to register. You don't even need to bring a canoe!

Sunday marks the 19th year in a row that the Harbourside and other Water Street restaurants have held canoe races on the cove to raise money for Special Olympics.

According to Asst. Manager Vickie Brisco, it started because restaurant owners wanted to do something collectively. Initially, it was Harbourside Lobstermania, The Blue Parrot (where is now), and 20 Water Street (now ). Each establishment had their own activity – Harbourside had the canoe races and that's the one the stuck.

Teams of four must paddle the canoe from the Harbourside, where registration takes place, up to Blu and back again. There will be five heats and registration costs $25 per person. Canoes are provided. The money goes to Special Olympics.
